Alterna Modular Caseworks added to KHC Kimball Health

Alterna, modular caseworks, has launched! Etool symbols and pricing are now available in Etools and ready for you to specify! Alterna, mainly comprised of worksurfaces and cabinets, is easier to specify than a casegoods product.

Here’s a few things to note in the January release:
• Alterna is located in the KHC Kimball Healthcare catalog.
• For CET users, standard symbols are located in the Catalog Browser. Automation development is underway to provide intelligence for the symbols.
• Worksurfaces have a selection of “finished” or “unfinished” edge. On laminate surfaces, there should be no upcharge for “finished” edges; on solid surfaces, the upcharge should be only $25 list per edge.
• The worksurfaces feature a sink option which will default to the center of the surface.

2020 December 2017 catalog DVD incorrect pricing

The 2020 catalog DVD mailing which was received last week, marked December 2017, includes incorrect pricing.  If you install catalogs from a disk set rather than from a download file, you should replace the bad November 21 2017 pricing files with the corrected December 04 2017 versions.

This zipfile contains the corrected CAT pricing files.  After you install the monthly catalog update from the December 2017 DVD set, copy the zipfile’s contents (the 22 individual CAT files, not the zipfile itself) to folder C:\ProgramData\CAP\Content\KIM, overwriting the bad November 21 CAT files with the good December 04 versions.

This is only necessary if you install catalogs from the DVD set, not from the downloadable DSAZIP catalog install file available on 2020.net.  If you prefer to install Kimball catalogs from the downloadable file instead of the DVDs but aren’t registered on 2020.net, you can also get it here.

December 2020 catalogs posted

The December catalog update for CAP, Giza, and Worksheet is now posted on the 2020.net download page.  This update introduces 12/18/17 pricing.

Kimball internal users can find files CAP_KIM 1217.dsazip, GIZA_KIM 1217.dsazip, and WS_KIM 1217.dsazip in network folder T:\2020 Catalogs.

As of today, the 2020.net download page caption incorrectly reads “November 2017 DVD”, but the files at the download links are actually December 2017 data, with updated pricing in zone 1.

These price zones are now in effect:

Updated December CAP Kimball pricing data

If you downloaded the CAT files dated 12/1/2017 from the link in yesterday’s blog post, then you should replace them with this updated version dated 12/4/2017.  The previous version of these files contained old pricing data with incorrect PZ Description effective dates.

As noted in yesterday’s blog post, you should copy the contents of the zipfile to folder C:\ProgramData\CAP\Content\KIM, overwriting each of the 22 .CAT files with the 12/04/2017 version.  You can then update existing Worksheet specifications to December pricing by using the Update Against Catalog command.

12/2017 prerelease 2020 pricing data available

Updated pricing effective 12/18/2017 will appear in December CAP/Worksheet catalogs when they’re posted on 2020.net in mid-December.  If you need to use updated pricing before then, you can manually copy CAP’s December Kimball catalog data files to your machine.

(Edit: A corrected version of the CAT files, dated 12/4/2017, is now posted.  The original 12/1 version had incorrect pricing, and also failed to display selected fabrics/finishes in Visual Impression.)

To overwrite your currently installed Worksheet/CAP Kimball catalog pricing data with December 2017 pricing, allowing you to update existing specifications with new pricing, download the zipfile from the link below and copy its contents to folder C:\ProgramData\CAP\Content\KIM.

  • Close any open CAP or Worksheet windows.
  • Save zipfile 1217 CAT files.zip to your Downloads folder, or to your desktop or some other folder if you prefer.
  • Right-click on zipfile 1217 CAT files.zip and select Extract All, creating uncompressed folder 1217 CAT Files.
  • Copy the CAT files dated 12/1/2017 from folder Downloads\1217 CAT Files to folder C:\ProgramData\CAP\Content\KIM, overwriting the 10/26/2017 CAT files.

  • After the files have been successfully copied, delete the 1217 CAT files folder and zipfile from Downloads.

To update an existing Worksheet specification, go to Worksheet/Update Against Catalog, and update using price zone setting Default From Item. Turn on the PZ and PZ Description columns to verify that PZ Description now says Effective 12/18/2017 for Zone 1 line items.

2020 Software Fall 2017 13.20 software update published

The Fall 2017 2020 Software quarterly update (version 2017.2 or 13.20) is now available.  It includes several corrections to Narrate CAP automation.

You can download the patch by selecting CAP Designer/Help/Check For Software Updates (in a drawing) or Help/Check For Software Updates (in Worksheet).  For Kimball internal users, I’ll also put the file in network folder T:\2020 Software\13_20 Update 1117 (but if it’s been autodeleted by the disk cleanup routine, use Check For Software Updates instead).

These issues are addressed:

  • Narrate 4H mid-frame supports generated by 5H Support Traxx can now be deselected in Elevation Properties.  In 13.10, these MFS, which are meant for overhead support and aren’t always needed, would incorrectly regenerate as soon as you deselected them.
  • Monitor (TV Mount) frame type selection in Elevation Properties is now allowed for a stacked Narrate panel run.  If the base frame is 48 x 5 Powered or Single Sided Powered, you should now be able to change it to a Monitor frame even if stacked.
  • Power Pole selection is now blocked above a Monitor frame.
  • Tiles at stacking height above a Monitor frame no longer error incorrectly.
  • Standard-height tiles on the back face of a Monitor frame no longer error incorrectly.  To-The-Floor tiles still have an incorrect red-X error, though, forcing you to turn off red-X layer NarrateTile and manually add that tile’s Traxx segment in Worksheet.  That’ll be corrected in the February 13.30 quarterly update.
  • Selecting and deselecting Power Pole in Elevation Properties no longer allows selection of previously greyed out checkboxes.
  • Traxx no longer generates along the top edge of a red-X erroring tile.  Previously, some generated and some didn’t.  I’m uncertain whether I like it this way (note the issue with TTF tile Traxx on the back of a monitor frame described above), but 2020 says this is what the Xsite Traxx autogeneration function has done in the past.
  • Worksurface mid-support brackets no longer generate at the midpoints of wide worksurfaces.  For now, you must manually place a support rail or mid-support for to support a kneespace >48″w.  I’m checking with 2020 to see when support rail generation will be added–certainly no later than February, but it may be something we can add before then as part of a monthly catalog update.
  • At the back corner of a Narrate-/Xsite-mounted corner worksurface, only one 33WBSA/36WBSA edge bracket is now generated rather than two.

There’s still some work remaining before Narrate automation will be complete.  The major Narrate development items below are planned for the 13.30 February 2018 update, along with several other specific bugfixes:

  • Add tiered stacking (one stacking frame above another).
  • Allow monitor tile placement on the back face of a monitor frame.
  • Error at connector locations adjacent to hinged doors, which don’t take standard Narrate connectors but instead require monolithic Door Connectors similar to Xsite.  Autohardware for these new door connector models will then be added in June.
  • Improve stacking connector generation.  Currently, many hi-lo configurations fail with a red circle error, requiring manual connector/trim placement.
  • Generate mid-frame supports behind Narrate slat tiles.  Currently, you must manually select these MFS in Elevation Properties.
  • Add an identifying tag to distinguish a Narrate elevation from Xsite.

As always, bug reports are appreciated.

KLY Narrate CAP current buglist

These are the known issues with Narrate in CAP. I’ve generally grouped them into those scheduled for November 2017 (software version 13.20) correction or February 2018 (13.30), though a few of them aren’t tied to quarterly software update publication dates and may appear ahead of schedule.

To be corrected in the 13.20 software update, November 2017:

  • In some instances, panel run width information is corrupted when creating an elevation, so that the elevation is 18” wide rather than matching the 2D run object’s actual width. Workaround: Draw the 2D run object as a different type—powered rather than Nonpowered, for example—then Edit Structure Run to change the type, and you can then create an elevation of the correct width. 2020’s still trying to figure this one out, so if you run into it I’d appreciate it if you can send me the files. It’s happened three times so far that I know of.
